Is This Market Getting You Down?

Are you starting to have a bad attitude? Are all of your statements negative rather than saying anything positive? Are you always complaining about your sales numbers, and no matter what you do, it doesn't seem to be enough? Is this market making your job impossible?

Does this sound like you? If it does, then here's some advice: Stop feeling sorry for yourself. Negative energy can destine you to fail. When negative thoughts take over, it doesn't matter how creative and knowledgeable you are. Negative thoughts produce negative outcomes. If you spend all your time on the bad things that are happening around you, you'll never have time to focus on the good things.

I'm sure you've all heard about the power of positive thinking. Well, let's start practicing it. Here are a few examples of how to put the power of positive thinking into action.

  1. Watch your words, thoughts, and actions. The next time you start thinking negative thoughts, tell yourself to STOP. Think about your words. Ask yourself, why can't I . . . . What's so wrong in turning everything around, and TELL yourself, I can . . . . What's the worst that can happen - thinking good thoughts instead of negative ones!

  2. Stop blaming everyone else for the slow market. I've done it myself. Oftentimes I hear myself saying, "the media is killing us". Well, the more you focus on everything that's wrong with the market, the more reluctant you'll be to move on. Start thinking about positive ideas that you can put into action to help the current situation.

  3. Don't continue to dwell on the one or two things that have gone wrong for you recently. Instead, think about all the nice things that have happened to you. Do you have a "You're The Best" folder? What's that you say? It's a folder in which you put all those notes and letters from satisfied buyers and sellers. Every time you're feeling negative, pull out those cards and read them to yourself. They will boost your spirit tremendously.

  4. No matter how bad the market gets, there's usually someone around you, whether it be in your own company or another office, who seems to be doing well. Call that person. Take him/her to lunch. Just being in the presence of a positive person can lift and change your negative aura.

  5. And finally, the best advice I can give you is to SMILE. Smile whenever you can. It's really tough being negative when you have a smile on your face. If you have children, remember when your son or daughter was toddling around. If you're married, remember when your spouse proposed. If you're single, remember good times with special friends. All of these events should bring immediate smiles to your face. Try it, you might like it!

I can't promise you the above tips will change the market, but I can certainly assure you, it will make your disposition sunnier.

See you next week.
